I don't buy into the saying that I would be wasting my vote if I were to vote for Alan Keyes. Zita, I hear you. I really do. I am about as uncompromising of a guy you'll ever meet when it comes to principle. But we also have to be realistic. If I like, I can be more principled than you, and write down Papa Benny on my ballot. Surely he would make a better president than Alan Keyes. But just as surely he would lose.
Alan Keyes would make a better president than Mike Huckabee. But Alan Keyes, like the pope, has zero chance of winning.
Getting back to the point you are making above, I don't think it's a very good analogy because our options right now are not between a political Barabas (the Huckster) and a political Jesus (Dr. Keyes).
A better religious analogy would be something like a choice between Archbishop Burke of St. Louis, Cardinal George of Chicago, and Bishop Skylstad of Spokane, WA. Given a choice between the three, I would take Burke hands-down, any day of the week. But Cardinal George is lightyears better than Skylstad.
In the same way, Huckabee is lightyears better than McCain. And, though his chances of winning are slim, they are not nill, as Alan Keyes' are. So yes, if you want to vote according to principle alone without a thought for prudence, you really ought to write in for the pope -- not Alan Keyes.
You are falling for the lie. Do not remain in the dark about what is happening in this election. This election is not about Alan Keyes. It is about what is right for this country. The truth is there are a lot of people who would vote for Alan Keyes if he were the nominee.
